At the state capital in Nashville right now, our lawmakers are discussing the merit of giving more Tennessee children access to a quality start to their education. That legislation — Senate Bill 2179 and its companion House Bill 2201 – would dedicate sports betting revenues to increase the availability of quality Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) classrooms across the state. In our county and many others throughout Tennessee, the number one barrier to accessing quality early education is the high cost. For the first time in 15 years, however, there is an opportunity to make pre-K an option for more Tennessee children.
In a Chattanooga Times Free Press editorial, Chattanooga 2.0 Director of Early Childhood Strategies Jennifer Andrews, recently shared the impact increasing access to VPK would have on kindergarten readiness and literacy and why now is the time to make your voice heard.
