Job Title: AmeriCorps Program Manager – Literacy First K–2 Tutoring
Hours: Full-time
Pay: $60,000-65,000/year
Work Location: Hybrid
Reports To: Chief Strategy Officer
Start Date: August 4, 2025
Do you believe every child deserves to learn how to read—and that well-supported tutors can help make that possible? Chattanooga 2.0 is launching a new AmeriCorps-funded tutoring program that places trained early literacy tutors in some of Hamilton County’s highest-need elementary schools. We’re hiring a Program Manager who brings initiative, energy, and a solutions-oriented mindset to lead the day-to-day implementation of this federally funded initiative, with a focus on program coordination, tutor support, and compliance with AmeriCorps regulations.
Our Literacy First K–2 Tutoring program is a new AmeriCorps State initiative designed to strengthen early literacy through daily, one-on-one tutoring sessions focused on foundational reading skills. The tutoring model is based on the nationally recognized Literacy First program developed by the University of Texas at Austin. Tutors use a structured, phonics-based approach grounded in the Science of Reading to help K–2 students master early reading skills in 30-minute sessions. Assessment, progress monitoring, and individualized lesson planning are all core components of the model.
As Program Manager, you’ll receive direct support from the Literacy First team through virtual coaching, implementation support, and capacity-building sessions. This partnership ensures that you and your tutors are equipped with the tools, data, and professional learning needed to deliver high-quality instruction.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in school-based literacy work—especially instructional coaching or mentoring student teachers—and who has strong skills in program operations, data tracking, and communication.
