Just as the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce and Chattanooga 2.0 have announced ambitious goals under the ‘Chattanooga Climbs’ initiative, Chattanooga-based Thinking Media is developing a new system that will be piloted in 6 select regions of Tennessee, including Hamilton County, beginning January 2020.
Tennessee Career Awareness and Preparation System (TN-CAPS) will offer a long-term solution to the workforce “skills gap” noted by employers statewide by providing localized, demand-driven, student-centered resources. Through the portal at tncaps.com, teachers will have the ability to connect students with the needs of local businesses in meaningful ways through classroom-ready lesson plans that illustrate the tasks common to careers that local businesses desire, and then link to actual businesses near that specific school.
The Chattanooga Chamber was selected by the TN Chamber of Commerce to be one of the six state pilots and received a grant to support efforts to engage schools and businesses in the effort.
In support of this new K-12 resource, the Chamber and Chattanooga 2.0 have helped recruit businesses and schools, respectively, in the Chattanooga area to be represented in TN-CAPS. Local companies have been asked specifically to complete a Business Survey which provides critical economic and engagement information used inside the portal. If you represent a business that wants to be a part of TN-CAPS, please click here to complete the Business Survey and provide information that can be used in the expansion of the TN-CAPS resource. Professional development for selected Hamilton County Schools will be conducted in early Jan. The resources will be available to all Hamilton County Schools in January.
